If drainage is leaking out into your bathroom’s tub, toilet or shower, you should make a call to your plumber straightaway. Action should be taken immediately as this can effect your well being, sewage is full of germs, so this problem should be resolved immediately.

While you are waiting for the plumbers van to arrive, begin to clean up the area yourself with a solution of one cup of bleaching agent to every five gallons of water. Keep children, aged relatives, and pets away from the area, and wear long pants, eye wear, gloves and boots. Remember to exhaustively wash your hands with soap after you are done with the cleaning up. The less water you have going down the drain the better in terms of preventing more sewage backing up whilst you wait for help.

There might be a blockage between the toilet and the shower, or the waste line may have been obstructed. Your first concern, without worrying about the cause, should be protecting your family from harmful waste.

Vomiting, fever, chills, stomach pain, diarrhoea are some of the symptoms of exposure to sewage. Seek medical attention right away if you experience any of these symptoms.

The sewerage backup may be too severe for you to tackle, in which case you should immediately ask for professional help. A plumber will not only be able to clean up the mess that the leaked sewage created for you but also locate where the blockage is. Unless you know what you are doing when you try to do your own plumbing remedies, it is generally wise to let the experts handle it to begin with.
