Release those stopped sewers
Release those stopped sewers
Unfortunately, most of us have experienced being in the shower with the water level rising rapidly. How disgusting! the drain pipe is clogged up . What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drainpipe!. Clearing choked drains is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drains make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drainage are). But it is something that most people will have to deal with every once in a while. Every householder must know how to fight that monster of a blocked drainpipe.
Why do drainage get choked?.
Most often, when the dirt, sand and debris that we wash off from our bodies combines with the hair that we shed in a bath, all those entangled clumps accumulate within and eventually block the drainpipe. Everyday products like soaps, shampoos, detergents and so on add to the problem by building up around the solid material. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drains get completely plugged. If water builds up quickly in your sink or tub when it should flow smoothly out of your drain pipe, you may already have a plumbing clog on your hands.
How to remove the drainpipe blockage.
You can do a number of things to unblock your bathtub or bathroom sink drain pipe. First of all the plug should be removed. For a bathroom sink, if you have a traditional style plug this is an easy enough job, but if you have an integrated stopper you will have to look under the sink to remove the nut that keeps it attached. With your bath tub, you can either unscrew the plug right at the drainpipe or removing the overflow plate to remove the assembly.
The accumulated matter choking up your drain pipe may be clearly visible when you have taken off the stopper. You are most likely to see bunch of hair and other debris entangled in a clog. Try to pull it out, as much as you can. You may find it difficult to get at the clog, in which case you could use something like a wire clothes hanger to fish the material out. This step of removing the residual clumps will remove the local blockage at your drain point.
If, after exposing the drain pipe, you observe that the blockage is not close enough for removal with the wire you have, then you will need to find another way. A drain pipe plunger can help you get rid of blockages that are too deep down to reach by inserting your hand. To begin with, you should plug the overflow drain pipe to make sure that the plunger has optimum suction. Then put the plunger over the drainpipe mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. Hopefully, after doing this and once the plunger is taken away, any water should flow freely down the drain pipe as the vacuum created freed the blockage.
Even the plunger may not clear the most dense and hardened matter inside your plumbing – that’s when you will have to deploy a chemical drain clearing product. Chemical Substances should be applied only after all else fails because they are treacherous and can damage your bathroom hardware.
Call a professional plumber if all else fails.
If the above methods fail to solve your clogged up drain problem then you may have to contact a plumber. Plumbers have special equipment to clean the blocked drains speedily and effortlessly such as a drains snake, drainage contractors also employ water jetting to clear blockages and cctv drains cameras to view inside the drain. Taking professional help will cost you a bit but it is definitely worth it.
