How to deal with a drainage leak

A plumber should be phoned straightaway if drainage is backing up into your bath tubs, showers or toilets. Action should be taken immediately as this can effect your health, sewerage is full of germs, so this problem should be resolved immediately.

It would be prudent to clean the area with a cup of bleach to five gallons of water before the plumber reaches your house. Keep kids, ageing relatives, and pets away from the area, and wear long pants, eye wear, gloves and boots. Be sure to thoroughly wash your hands with warm water and soap when you have finished the drains clearup. The less water you have going down the drain pipe the better in terms of preventing more sewage backing up whilst you wait for help.

The cause of the issue might be a clogged waste line or a stoppage between the toilet and the shower. However, the most significant thing to think about is saving your family from risky waste.

Symptoms from being exposed to drainage may include diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, chills, and vomiting. If any of these symptoms happen to you or your family, particularly the small or aged, seek medical attention without hold up.

Clean all items and surfaces that in come in contact with the sewage, including children’s toys, using a standard cup mixture of unscented domestic bleaching agent in every five gallons of water. Items that cannot be cleansed (such as mattresses, stuffed animals, baby dolls, and wooden cutting boards) and food that may have been tainted by the sewerage should be thrown away.

Use a drainage snake if sewerage is backing up in the shower. For such sewers and pipe joints in close proximity, a quarter-inch snake of 25 feet length will work fine. You can move a quarter inch snake easily inside the drainage line. Sometimes a toilet in the bathroom is quite clear while the shower in the same area has gotten clogged. This is due to the fact that the toilet trap is typically about 6 inches above the floor level, whereas the typical shower drain is installed level with the flooring.

An expert tradesman, a plumber, must be contacted if you can’t fix the back flow yourself. Not only would they find exactly where the block is but they would also clean up the leaked sewage thoroughly for you saving a lot of effort and grief. In fact it is always better to take expert help especially when you don’t know much about plumbing as you could harm your drainpipes if you start poking about inside them with home made tools.
