Excavate your trenches well for your sewer system

Drainage pipes are often used in systems which carry the waste products from utilities to the septic tank. Pipes are laid in between inspection chambers in sewer systems that run from houses. The system should be self cleaning and prevent blockage. Appropriate gradients are used to accomplish this. The system uses mostly UPVC tubing. It is important to adequately test the laid system before its commissioning. This must be carried out between the inspection chambers.

Drainage pipes need to be laid down in channels dug in the earth. Depth averages between thirty and fifty centimeters. Concrete casing is required for the system when it is laid below a parking area, walkway or driveway. The excavation should be done according to the requirements. Levels should be graded in the direction of the sewers or tanks. Maintain a slope of one in four for the excavated channels. The bottom of the trenches should be rammed and compacted properly. The level in the foot of a trench bottoms should be determined using pegs.

Maintaining straight lines is essential while laying down the drainage pipes. Sockets that lead uphill or in the direction of the building must be used for joining the separate pipes. A firm and uniform bed for the pipes has to be ensured. Male and female sockets should be used to join the pipes using a good adhesive. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions while using the adhesive. Ensure that the pipe goes into the full wall thickness during connection to the various inspection chambers. Pipes must be free of litter and internal obstructions.

Inspect and scrutinise the drainage pipes while laying them. This is to make sure they are not perforated. Confirm the correct formation of the socket recesses in the foundation. Keep them short where possible. The two ends of inspection chambers- for entry and exit- must be evenly finished to the proper slope. Once all the joints are finished, the whole system is then covered over with earth. Connect to the sewer or septic tank. After this connect to the utilities to complete the drainage.
