Clean out those obstructed drains pipes rapidly

What can you do if you are stuck with a obstructed drain pipe? Well the easiest way to unclog your bathroom drain pipe is to use a drainage plunger. What’s involved is very clear, cover the drain pipe with the plunger and push. What you don’t want to do however is to vigorously pump up and down like a jack hammer. Ideally the plunger’s bell shaped head should be used to cover the drainpipe fully, you can then push the plunger down and then pull it up again to create suction in a slow rhythmical manner. The suction created with the upward movement will pull back the blockage that is stuck in the drain of your tub, sink or toilet. Some tubs and sinks have an overspill outlet; remember to plug this outlet with the help of a wet towel or sponge before using the plunger.

Instead of using your plunger you can apply commercial products containing chemicals that can dissolve the blockage, for instance concentrated waste pipes cleaner. But it would only be recommended to resort to using chemicals after you have tried fixing the problem with a waste pipes plunger. Run the chemical into the drain pipe and allow it to work for about 30 minutes before flushing the drainage with hot water. As a precaution you should wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or corrosive chemicals on. After chemical flushing, you may try the plunger again – this can cause the chemical/water mix to splash back on you – eye guards are highly advisable here. The chemical product comes with specific manufacturer’s directions; it is important to read and follow them carefully.

If the plunger still doesn’t make any difference after the chemical treatment you could use pliers or a pipe wrench to loosen the P-trap nuts. You should have a bucket and a towel handy as this can be a really dirty job. If you don’t want to damage the chrome finish of your pipes and also to get a better grip on the pipe, you can wrap the jaws of your wrench with electrical tape. With the trap opened, insert gloved hands to remove any debris that may be blocking the bends. If you don’t see anything, the problem might unfortunately go far deeper and may be located between the trap and the waste pipes soil stack.

In case of a choked toilet, you can apply a toilet auger. With a bathtub or sink, however a drain pipe snake should be used. Because of their size and length, drainage snakes are well designed for getting at blockages in small spaces in difficult to reach places. With the help of the adjustable handle, you can literally drill into the blockage and pull out the clog from the drainage. After you have successfully removed the the blockage you should put the P-trap back into place and check if water can flow through freely. Make sure that all the connections are properly fitted and sealed, and also check the P-trap for leakages.

If the drainpipe is still plugged after all these measures, or if the problem reoccurs chronically, employ a competent plumber or drainage contractor to fix it. You will need to call a professional plumber or drains pipes service when the clog is in the sewer or soil track or when it is due to tree roots, or when the pipe has collapsed due to some reason.
